Love is a powerful 4 letter word.
We say that we love people or things on a regular basis.
If I was to ask you what love means to you, what would you say?
Love has different meanings for each person based on their life experiences.
Please note that love is different from lust which is based solely on physical or sexual attraction.
The Bible teaches us not to think lustful thoughts about another person as it could cause us to sin.
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:28
The Bible has a clear definition and many scriptures about love.
Some of the well known scriptures are stated below.
God so loved the world that He gave us His begotten son. John 3:16
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and mind and with all your soul and with all your strength [your entire being]. Deuteronomy 6:5
Love your neighbour as you love yourself. Matthew 22:39
I have been inspired to write a 14 day devotional / blog series on the Biblical kind of love for the days leading to Valentines Day. Although, Valentines Day is pagan in its origin; God who is love wants to us to know what true love is according to His word.
The scriptural focus of this blog series will be
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a which states.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:4â€-‬8a NIV
There are 14 characteristics of love which I noted from the above scripture. I will be doing a mini blog post on each of these for 14 days.
I would love for you to join me for this Bible Study.
You can sign up to join by using the image below to get email reminders of the blog posts.
